Support a child living with a parent with a mental illness
$ 5.00
Much is discussed in the media about mental illness. What we fail to hear mentioned is the impact mental illness has on families who are living with someone with a mental illness. In particular the impact on children. If mum and/or dad are battling depression, bio polar, PTSD just to name a few it is the kids that are usually left to simply "get on with it". Kids as young as 4 or 5 cooking, cleaning and taking care of their parent(s). This of course does not make the parents bad parents, it just means their attention is taken away from the "normal" role of a parent. Kookaburra Kids program supports these kids. Our respite camps and school holiday program gives them a break from these adult responsibilities and gives them a chance to be a kid.
