St John Ambulance Australia (vic)

St John Ambulance Victoria is a charity that supports Victorians through emergencies, disasters and sickness. We provide First Aid and First Aid training that saves lives.

St John volunteers are first responders at thousands of local sporting, community and entertainment events across the state each year.

Our disaster response teams support communities in times of bushfire, flood and pandemic.

Every year, over 370,000 Victorians utilise our services – whether it be our transport services, First Aid care, or First Aid training. This is in addition to the millions of people whose health we oversee at sporting, community, and entertainment events across the state each year.

Emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. Being able to provide First Aid before an ambulance arrives can mean the difference between life and death.

How we help in an emergency:

St John Medical Assistance Teams are deployed to high risk activities and large scale events, and can be set up rapidly. This includes a temporary on-site field hospital, staffed with a scalable team of volunteer medical practitioners, nurses, paramedics and logistical staff.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, St John has provided vital services to support the health response to the crisis – including door-to-door COVID-19 test collection; transporting vulnerable members of the community to be COVID-19 tested or to attend medical and other urgent appointments; delivering vital PPE around the state; and we established a 30-bed field hospital.

As a charity, we self-fund our life-saving community initiatives and programs and receive no recurrent government funding.
