Eligibility of your organisation to receive Donations

Under the terms of the deed of The Karma Currency Foundation  the Karma Currency Foundation can only forward donations to organisations that are registered on the New Zealand Charities Register and are Donee Organisations for New Zealand tax purposes.

Charity and Donee Organisation requirements

Donee organisation has the meaning given by the Income Tax Act 2007.  In general terms this means that either:

  • It is a organisation described under section LD 3 of the Income Tax Act 2007 (for example, charitable organisations or other recognised taxexempt enterprises such as schools).

  • It is listed in Schedule 32 of the Income Tax Act 2007 (which relates to organisations having charitable purposes outside of New Zealand).

An organisation's name can be used to search the New Zealand Inland Revenue online register of Donee Organisations available at http://www.ird.govt.nz/donee-organisations/donee-organisations-index.html.

An organisation’s name can be used to search the New Zealand Register of Charities for confirmation that it is a registered charity.  The register is available at http://www.charities.govt.nz.

Unless The Karma Currency Foundation agrees otherwise, Organisations must be shown under both of these online registers.

If an organisation uses more than one name (for example, a legal name and a trading name), then your charity profile to receive donations must be made in the name which is shown under the registers above.

** Auspicing

Auspicing refers to the practice of an ineligible organisation (one that is not a donee organisation or does not have registration as a charity)  applying to the Foundation via an eligible organisation to receive donations. Auspicing arrangements are excluded under the Foundation's guidelines. The organisation applying to the Foundation to receive funding must be the organisation that will run the project or program for which the donations are being sought.
